Name and job title?
Matt Froess, Vice President of Laboratory Operations.
San Jose, California.
I worked construction with my dad.
Toyota truck, but I wish it were a Ferrari.
Number of cups of coffee you drink per day?
Two on a good day, but the day never ends.
How long have you worked at California Dental Arts?
27 years and I have the smock to prove it, too.
How did you get into the dental lab business?
I was in high school and knew a gal who was working at a lab. She didn’t like it, so I applied and got in that way. I worked there for about four years and trained on the job.
What do you like most about your job?
Interacting with doctors, the people and new technology. It’s always changing and cases are always different.
What do you do really well?
Solving problems, putting out fires and making the wheel go ’round.
What’s one thing people might not know about working in a dental lab?
How much is involved in making a crown. The doctor doesn’t make the crown; the lab does. When we see patients who come in for shade matching, they have no idea how involved the technology is.
Passion outside of work?
Duck hunting and watching my son and daughter play sports.
